VISA

Visa requirements vary depending on nationality, purpose of visit, and length of stay. Visas on arrival are available for tourists at certain airports, including Erbil International Airport for U.S. citizens. Always ensure that your passport receives an exit stamp upon departure to avoid fines or detentions. Check with the Iraqi embassy or consulate for the latest visa information.

Health

Travelers to Iraq should take precautions against waterborne illnesses by drinking bottled water and avoiding uncooked foods. It's recommended to be up-to-date on routine vaccinations, and consider additional vaccines for diseases such as hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow fever. Comprehensive travel insurance, including medical evacuation coverage, is strongly advised.

Iraq's security situation remains volatile and unpredictable. Terrorism, armed conflict, and civil unrest pose significant risks. The U.S. government has limited capacity to provide emergency services to its citizens in Iraq. Travel near Iraqโ€™s borders, particularly the northern regions, is discouraged due to ongoing threats. In case of an emergency, U.S. citizens can contact the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad or the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil for assistance.
